Estimation method:
The numerator is composed by the sum of persons with severe mental disorder who received care in the previous one year from the various inpatient and outpatient health facilities (if it is not possible to count patients, discharges are an acceptable proxy) from inpatient mental health facilities (mental hospitals, psychiatric wards in general hospitals, community residential facilities) and the number of outpatients treated in community mental health centers, ambulatory and day-care centers during one year. The denominator is derived from national epidemiological surveys or, if unavailable, sub-regional global prevalence estimates.
